Introduction and How To Get There

The northwest coast of Malaysia offers the traveller a myriad of adventures. From soaking up the sun on the golden beaches to relaxing in cool mountain retreats, there is no lack of rustic charm. More subdued and nature enthused than the southern parts of the Peninsular, this area presents the traditional as well as historical elements that date to an era long forgotten.

Its diversity in activities and places to visit propel the traveller in an exciting arena of choices and to soak in the beauty of the northwest region. Local delicacies which excite the palate made from fresh homegrown ingredients and world class fare with fusionist rhythms make the northwest coast a tantalizing travel experience for the taste buds as well!

The northwest comprises Perlis, Penang, Perak, Kedah, and each state holds their own unique grandeur be it in the historical sense or in the natural wonders it holds.

How to get there

The North-South Expressway (NKVE) which is strategically located along these states makes traveling up and around the northwest coast easy and convenient. Alternatively opt for a selection of local flights to get you there as quickly as possible. Rail travel is also a good way to see much of the countryside including the traditional villages and paddy fields.

tip

If you’re driving to Penang, try and avoid the evening rush hour on the Penang Bridge, when commuters leave or return to the island after work. You could get stuck on that bridge for hours...
