While there are some English newspapers and political magazines (like the excellent Off the Edge), press in Malaysia is restricted and conveniently screwed to the government’s position.

However, there are news portals and online sources that provide critical opinion, the two most popular in Malaysia being Malaysiakini and Malaysia Today. Both have at times been taken to task by the government for their independent views and forced to close their websites. But these rebellious sites are nothing if not resourceful, jumping to new ISPs to keep their pressure on. The best way to find them is to google them and the new server addresses will redirect you.
